Ive had some discussion with Leo Deegan ( who works at Google on the stream ) about the interface.
The major topics I felt could use improvement are:

1) Locking certain categories to be moderator only, so only moderators will have access to post.

2) Locking the left colum in place. ( As it stands now when you scroll down the page it disapears and leaves wasted space in its place.) If it stays put it will allow for people to KNOW where in the community they are at all times.. its in essence your menu of navigation.

3) It seems that communities are in essence mini websites..content management, categorized and searchable all with the ability to comment and interact socially. Now if we continue to treat it as a mini website it can become even more powerful.
What if certain moderators could be given different levels of control. Just like on a wordpress page.. You could offer certain moderators authorship rights… but not publishing rights.. authorship rights but not site wide rights.. etc.
This could allow for much more control, and ease of overall use.

4) Keep up the great work!!

Great points Jason! especially about the left column so the main categories and key information is always visible. I really thing we will soon see some key improvements in functionality and see how Communities fit into the G+ experience.

I like Jason’s ideas! Definitely more moderator control!

Being able to choose to share PUBLIC and COMMUNITY at the same time. NOT adding multiple posts to the stream. NOT cluttering up your own page.

I know there’s more… I just need to think about it ;)

i wish each page could have a locked top section or header that the moderators could write in to tell people what type of content that particular page is about. even if the moderator writes the initial description post, it goes off the page when people start posting to that page

They need to do something. The last two days I’ve had announcements that I wanted to share on my own personal stream and on a fishing & hunting community. So it ended ended up on my profile twice and it looks cluttered. :(

Hi Ron,

I would like the opportunity to share a photo to either a) one community when it is supposed to be limited communications (i.e. like sharing to a circle) and b) the option of sharing to a community AND public at the same time so there is only one post in my stream and everyone else’s stream (don’t know if that is possible or not). Ideally, when we go to share a photo from one of our albums, when choosing whom to share with we can pick Community AND Public or Community AND a page for example.

Thanks!
Melissa

It’s not yet a possibility and there is some hesitation at the top as to whether that would strengthen communities or not. I know it would be an immense boost to the usability at least in the photo community. I know the majority of my followers post little or nothing to communities for exactly the reasons you mention

I definitely want to be able to post to my circles/public AND appropriate communities with one post. I don’t like re-sharing post because it clutters things. I think it would also be good to have a owner or moderator only category and the ability to change a category AFTER you post- and possibly with community moderators having that ability too. Many people are just leaving it as the default top category, but even if they see that after they’ve messed up in not choosing the correct category it doesn’t let you change it. I also recently made an album in a private community that I also want to make the album view-able by certain circles. It just spun and spun when I clicked the limited button to add some circles in addition to the private communities ability to view that one album of mine. I ended up having to share it. I don’t want duplicate albums too.

Your concerns are exactly what the majority or respondents want to see.
